Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 First Pictures

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2
These are the first leaked photos of the new 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2. The 550 indicates that the engine will tune to make 10 horsepower less than the 5.2 liter V10 motor in the LP560-4 and currently it can produce 550 horsepower. More details will be reviewed later but we heard that it will be about 10 percent cheaper and 30kg lighter thanks to the absence of all-wheel drive hardware. Sadly, only 250 units will be produced worldwide.

Lamborghini Concept Car

Lamborghini Concept Car New Lamborghini Concept Car Model “Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni”

This new limited edition Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni marks a return to rear-wheel drive for the first time since the Diablo. It didn’t happen with the Murcielago LP 670-4 SV, but it’s happening now with the Gallardo. Just 250 units of the car will be built in honour of the retiring chief test driver, Valentino Balboni, who has been with the company for over 42 years. The LP 550-2 suggests that it produces about 10 bhp less than the LP 560-4, but interestingly, it’s also 120 kg lighter. Lamborghini suggest a 0-96 kph time of just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 320 kph. These numbers are little slower than the LP560-4, but don’t suggest that it’s any less exhilarating a drive. In fact, given that it was designed conceived with inputs from Balboni itself, it’s probably going to be the most fun Lambo in production today. For this, Lamborghini has relocated the transmission to the rear axle, resulting in a 43-57% front-rear weight distribution to maximise controlled oversteer. New springs, dampers, stabilisers, tyres and even the aerodynamics were also adjusted to help change the power flow. A 45% limited slip diff was redeveloped for the rear-axle and adjustments were made to the ESP system. The CORSA program allows the LP550-2 to stretch it’s power-sliding legs a bit more than the standard program.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni Zurich unveil

Lamborghini's launch of the Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni in Zürich, Switzerland. According to Kaiser, this was the third stop of the car's initial European tour following appearances in Paris and Lyon in France. Next, the Italian crew will pack up and take their show on to various locations in the United Kingdom.

In case you your memory needs refreshed, the new Lambo was named in honor of the automaker's longtime test driver. Featuring a 550-horsepower version of the Gallardo's familiar V10 engine and a comparatively low 3,042-pound curb weight, the rear-drive LP550-2 is reportedly capable of scurrying to 60 in just 3.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 199 mph. Check out the photo gallery below and pay special attention to the unique black-and-white racing stripe, Scorpious wheels hiding bright yellow brake calipers and transparent engine cover.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2

Lamborghini is said to be undertaking a rear-wheel-drive project by the name of Gallardo LP550-2. If these leaked pictures show that car then fans of the bull are in for a real treat. The LP550-2 as the designation suggests, is built on a RWD system instead of Lambo's usual AWD layout.

Power comes from the 5.2-litre normally aspirated V10 engine but has been detuned to make 550hp (405kW) and not 560hp (412kW) like the LP560-4. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard. Don't let that minor power cut dissuade you from forming high opinions of the car though; it has shed 30kg (66 lbs) and dispatches the 0 - 100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds.

Those 30kgs lost are matched with a 10% price cut and a limited run of 250 units worldwide. A total of eight exterior colours will have owners salivating over which one to choose. Included with those is a special white livery.

An AWD Italian bull rushing over 500 stallions from under the bonnet is no child's play at full glory. One with no AWD safety net is something only a few should attempt to play with.
